The first Saturday of each month is Community Open Mic night, a SoulFood tradition, and also a wildly popular and well-attended event. So that each person has time to shine, we ask that each act perform only 3 songs/poems or 15 minutes total stage time, including setup and breakdown. This event runs from 6-9pm. SoulFood Poetry Night is curated by Michael Dylan Welch, and has been running since July of 2006. We ask one featured reader to select someone else to read with them. This process echoes the sense of community and connection that is central to SoulFood Books, brings in new voices, and helps to create harmony or contrast in our reading series.
