This concert is presented in honor of Kamil and Pim Kovach. They came by steamship and airplane, carrying nothing but their music. Tania León fled Cuba in 1967. Bright Sheng survived China’s Cultural Revolution. Rachmaninoff, Auerbach, and Dohnányi each escaped a collapsing world for American shores. Tonight, our Artists-in-Residence perform works by five immigrant composers whose music shaped this country. This is America’s story, told in sound.
