Eight New Hampshire artists have been painting together for years, and have created an exhibition that displays their passion for watercolor painting inspired by nature. The exhibition presents an opportunity for a longstanding artist circle to show their work together for the first time and to honor their senior member and mentor, Sylvia Brofos. Now in her 90s, Brofos has taught watercolor painting at many local institutions, as well as in her private studio. Read more
“DysFUNctional: Creativity Beyond Convention” celebrates the imaginative, neurodivergent mind through whimsical creatures, playful stories, and unconventional materials. Salon de Cinq began 22 years ago when Pat Palson, a nationally known weaver, brought 5 (cinq) local women artists together. They met weekly at Pat's studio to drink coffee, discuss art, give and receive honest critique, discuss the selling of art, and continue their love and excitement of art. The exhibit shows fiber art, wearable art, art jewelry, painting, and wood turning. Read more
Campton, N.H., artist Lizzy Berube paints large seasonal landscapes in acrylic and oil, inspired by places in New England where she has spent time, whether hiking in the mountains or meandering on a beach. Berube has lived in the White Mountains since 2017 and spends as much time as possible outdoors year-round. She divides her time between painting and designing perennial gardens for clients around New England. “Somewhere to Remember” is the artist’s first solo exhibition. Read more.
Three talented Rotarian artists combine their talents: the photo vision of Tony Gilmore; the woodturning that exposes the beauty of the twists and turns of grain markings by Rick Manganello; and the clay artistry in the stoneware of Caren Helm. Exhibiting her paintings at Two Villages Art Society is like “coming full circle” for Catherine H. Tuttle. A native of Contoocook and a member of the three-generation Houston farm family, she recalls signing out books at the Bates Library, a building that now houses the art gallery. “What a wonderful feeling to show my work here in this special little brick building, connecting my past, present, and sense of place,” she says. Bedford artist and teacher Marcie Roberts is inspired by master artists as well as the students she has taught. In her career as an educator, Roberts has taught Spanish and painting at the Derryfield School and taught elementary and middle school students in her own studio. Now, she focuses on her art. The art of combining various materials to create one cohesive piece is a passion shared by the five mixed media artists in this invitational exhibition. Their materials range from objects found in the natural world to shrink plastic. The techniques are just as diverse, including assemblage, printmaking, painting, and sewing for creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art.
