In 2023 the Minnesota Legislature, authorized the creation of the State Emblems Redesign Commission (SERC) and charged the Commission with the task of redesigning the Minnesota state flag and state seal. Over the course of four months, the Commission—with significant input from the public—produced these new state emblems.
