Join us for a weekly bird walk at Gilsland Farm, led by Maine Audubon's Staff Naturalist Doug Hitchcox and others. Meet in the parking lot, in front of the Visitor Center, where we'll begin a slow walk around the property to look and listen for birds using Gilsland's diverse habitats. Volunteers will assist with the site preparation and construction of a new timber foot bridge that will help provide a more sustainable solution for passage. Volunteers should be prepared to hike in approximately a mile, while carrying tools and equipment across uneven tread surfaces. Maine Audubon naturalists and special guests will lead monthly walks at Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s Jordan River Preserve in Trenton. The Jordan River Preserve protects 186 acres with more than a mile of shoreline, valuable tidal salt marshes, and nesting habitat for many bird species including Bobolinks and Cliff Swallows. Major Gregory Sanborn Wildlife Management Area, formerly known as the Brownfield Bog, is a major birding hotspot in Maine due to the diversity of birds that breed there.
