The Rip it Ups are a Cape Cod-based band playing a variety of styles – R & B, jazz, rock, blues, country, folk and originals, best described as Americana or roots music. It’s not uncommon for the band to go from Johnny Mercer to Robert Johnson to Frankie Valli, all in a row. The band’s concept is to provide a great show along with humor, superior musicianship and swing.

Fred Clayton was born in 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of 11, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he began studying music at the renowned Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts. His early musical foundation continued to grow after moving to Western Massachusetts, where he was influenced and inspired by legendary musicians including Archie Shepp, Marion Brown, Steve McCraven, and Avery Sharpe.
