Join us for the Art League of the South Bend Museum of Art luncheon on April 21st at Beiger Mansion in Mishawaka. Luncheon/Lecture Speaker: David Baker specializes in poetic landscape painting, much of it done en plein air. Baker is a lifelong artist and educator who teaches at Ox-Bow School of Art, Saugatuck, and retired from teaching at Southwestern Michigan College, Dowagiac. He has a studio at the Box Factory, St. Joseph, Mich., and is represented by Rising Phoenix Gallery in Michigan City.

An ekphrastic poem is a vivid written response to a work of art, inviting poets to imagine, interpret, and expand upon the meaning of a painting or sculpture through language. By reflecting on the “action” within an artwork, poets create new layers of understanding and connection. Individuals of all ages are invited to participate by writing a poem inspired by a work of art on view in the galleries. All submissions are reviewed, and selected poems will be published in a commemorative chapbook.
