His musical journey began at age eight when he was captivated by boogie-woogie piano. By his mid-teens, he was forming bands in Greenwich Village. In 1970, Woods moved to San Francisco, where he formed Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s in 1980, reviving the jump blues style of the 1940s and 1950s. The band released their debut album
